A Patient’s Guide to Our GP & AP Appointment System
Why have we changed our appointment system?
At Salford Health Matters we pride ourselves in keeping our patients and the public in the heart of everything we do. We believe that by listening to people who use and care about our services, we can better understand your needs and focus on what matters to you.
Through engaging with our patients, we have identified that you didn’t think the telephone triage system worked well, and that you didn’t always get to speak to the same clinician.

How Does it Work?
If you need to see a clinician, you can book a face to face appointment either on the day or in advance.
A GP from our Care UK team can discuss results with you over the telephone, give you medical advice or review your medications.
Log on to our online services or telephone to speak to one of our receptionists.
You will be asked to give clinical information about why you need to see or speak to a clinician. This helps your doctor and the team to plan your care. If you would like to pass a message on to a clinician, our medical receptionists will be happy to do this.
How can you help us?
As we try to improve our access in order to help our patients as best we can, we ask that you assist us by:
Speaking to your local pharmacist first
Do you have a minor ailment? The Minor Ailment Scheme has been introduced across pharmacies in Salford to assist you with ailments, illnesses and first aid such as colds, coughs, hay fever, indigestion, head lice as well as minor cuts and bruises. If you don’t currently pay for prescriptions they can issue a supply of medicines that you would normally need to buy. You can also visit NHS choices for trusted and useful information about health conditions and treatments at www.nhs.uk. Our practice pharmacists can also solve issues with your repeat medication and give you advice about most treatments.
Keep your appointments with us, or let us know if you can’t attend them
We understand that things don’t always go to plan and that it can sometimes be difficult to keep your appointments, but if you let us know as soon as possible your appointment can be given to somebody else. Last year over 10% of our appointments were wasted because the patient did not attend. That’s around 18 appointments a day!
Register with our online services
You can register with our online service. You can log in online and book, change or cancel your appointments at your own convenience. You can also order repeat medications and view your medical records. One of our reception team can register you.
Join Our Patient Participation Group
Each of our sites has a Patient Participation Group that meet regularly to discuss local, practice and company related news. We would love for you to attend and to give us feedback. Please speak to a receptionist for more details.
